Fish Habitat

If you want big fish, you need to have the optimum fish habitat. You need plenty of underwater structure that promotes algae growth and provides escape cover. You don’t have to spend your time and money trying to find the fish anymore. Pond King’s Honey Hole Trees and Honey Hole Shrubs are perfect drop structures for you to create your own perfect fishing spot on your lake or pond, and bring ‘em right to your hook.

Some ponds or lakes have relatively little cover. The Honey Hole Tree and The Honey Hole Shrub can help you develop a fish habitat perfect for algae to latch on and grow, and provide breeding areas and cover and for the bottom of the food chain on up.

The Honey Hole Tree is made from a high quality molded plastic cone with over 275 feet of tube forming the limbs. There are 93 branches, each of which is three feet long. The full tree is over 7 feet wide and 6 feet tall, offering plenty of cover as larger fish wait for their lunch to swim by.

You’ll also want to provide habitat in shallower water, so that fish can breed and grow. The Honey Hole Shrub is a molded plastic dome, with 180 ft of tubing that provides a dense cover over 32” tall and 6’ wide. These fish habitats are lightweight, easy to assemble and never need replacing because they will not rot.

Brad Metzler, owner of Pond King and a Wildlife and Fisheries Management graduate from Texas A & M, developed the Honey Hole Tree and Shrub as a result of his research as a fisheries management consultant. Electroshock surveys showed that fish love certain habitats and structures Mother Nature provides. In the process of imitating Mother Nature as inexpensively as possible, the Honey Hole Tree and Shrub were created.

Some private pond owners choose to suspend the Honey Hole Tree in the water, or they’ll use the included weights to pull it down on the bottom of their ponds. We suggest placing clusters of 3 to 5 trees in 6 to 8 feet of water because that’s where the majority of adult fish spend their time in a lake or pond. The Honey Hole Tree provides a unique gathering spot for your trophy fish to hide with plenty of cover so that they can ambush prey when they feed.

Have you ever seen someone tie a Christmas tree to the underside of their dock or as a fish attractor out in the open water? The tree provides the branches needed for an underwater structure; but not only will it eventually rot, it is also a perfect setup to catch your line and break it. The unique construction of the tubular limbs of the Honey Hole Tree end the frustration and expense of snagged and broken lines and lost lures. Instead, the innovative, new design of the Honey Hole Tree lets you fish through with never a snag.
