Surface Aerator

Surface aerator for pondPond Surface Aerator

Kasco pond surface aerators (also called High Oxygen Transfer Units) will help prevent costly and devastating fish kills that occur all too often in the Texas heat. These units help to maintain cleaner water, provide gentle circulation, and prevent thermal stratification. This means better growth rates and increased immunity to fish stress and disease.

These mobile units can be moved to provide emergency aeration to any lake at any time. Preventing even one total fish kill will usually offset the cost of your Kasco Aerator.

These pond surface aerators will improve water quality without increasing the turbidity.  Units are available in range of sizes from 1/2 Hp to 5 Hp.
1 hp per surface acre recommended.

Aeration Facts

Dead fish in pondPond Aeration Facts

Decomposing organic material (leaves, fish waste etc.) settle to the bottom of the pond and begin to decay. As they decay they consume oxygen and release toxic gasses (nitrogen, ammonia etc.). Without proper aeration, these toxic gases become trapped in the deeper, colder, and now oxygen starved water. The lack of dissolved oxygen in the water, is known as an anaerobic condition. Because of this condition, the beneficial bacteria which breathes oxygen and releases CO2 begins to die off further complicating the problem. This natural process occurs in all bodies of water, but it is not until you reach an unhealthy balance or sudden “turnover”  that the problems arise.

The result of a unbalanced ecosystem can lead to a build up of algae.   Algae consume nitrogen, ammonia, and soluble phosphates and release oxygen through photosynthesis.

The problem occurs when blooms of planktonic algae race out of control, thus producing high amounts of oxygen during the day and using most all of it up at night.  The result is typically a total fish kill. Having an aeration system levels out the natural cycle and maintains an acceptable level of oxygen in the water year round.
