The Honey Hole

Because so many Texas fisheries and reservoirs are man-made, Pond King designed The Honey Hole specifically for habitat improvement efforts in these bodies of water. Standing 9-feet tall and with a circumference of 7-feet when they are fully submerged and expanded, The Honey Hole provides an enormous amount of coverage.

Rehabilitating older reservoirs and fisheries

Many of the largest fisheries in the U.S. -  and especially Texas - were established in the 60s and 70s in an effort to help prevent flooding and provide water and electricity to developing cities. Even if these reservoirs had ample amounts of structure left intact when they were established, that was more than 50 years ago, and much of it has degraded or decomposed over time. Adding even a few Honey Holes can have a dramatic impact on the fish populations living in the bodies of water. And the best part is The Honey Holes will last for decades.

Tamper resistant for public fisheries

The 30 pounds of weight (not included) in the base make the Honey Hole nearly impossible to relocate. The Honey Hole replicates the structural complexity and dynamic movement of natural cover so fish immediately take to it. But, because it won’t rot or decay, you’ll be able to find this structure using a depth finder, making it easy to find your honey hole season after season.

Easy to assemble and install

Because The Honey Hole is often installed in relatively large quantities, we designed it to be quick and easy to put together lake-side, in an assembly-line style production. Once assembled, just load them onto a boat and drop them into water that is 12 to 15-feet deep.

Good for your fishery

The limbs of The Honey Hole are flexible and easy to fish through, reducing the number of lures that get tangled and end up at the bottom of the lake, decaying or creating unintended hazards to wildlife. Like all Pond King artificial fish habitat, The Honey Hole is manufactured using low (LDPE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with UV inhibitors. Polyethylene is a biologically inert material and is the same type of plastic approved by the FDA for use in the food storage industry, so you don’t have to worry about any unwanted toxins.

When you order artificial fish habitat online, it will be shipped to you via ground and the fees are calculated at checkout. Typically, it takes less than a week for us to process your order for shipping from our facility in Lindsay, Texas. When it does, you’ll receive a confirmation email including your tracking number.

All of Pond King’s artificial fish habitat carries a 10 year limited warranty on any manufacturer defects. While we stand behind our products, we aren't obligated to replace parts that are misused (eaten by otters, beavers, snapping turtles, stolen or tampered with) or damaged due to normal wear and tear. But we love a good story so if any of the above applies to you, shoot us an email (with pictures, please) to let us know what happened.

For such a massive piece of structure, The Honey Hole is quite easy to assemble:
Insert the stem bases
Add the concrete & let it cure
Insert the limbs
Fasten the limbs
Toss in the water

FAQ

Fish need cover. They either go to it to feed, or they go to it to avoid being eaten. Submerged vegetation is valuable as habitat for predatory species like Bass or Crappie and for forage species like Bluegill. Pond King’s fisheries biologists designed the Honey Hole product line to augment or replace naturally occurring aquatic vegetation to attract game fish (the fish that use cover as ambush to help them feed) and protect forage fish (the species that use habitat to hide from predation).
Our artificial fish habitat is designed for pond and lake owners to help with fish population management without a lot of vegetation control. Natural vegetation can be difficult to control for two primary reasons; Vegetation can take over the environment, Structure can, and almost always does, decay. For those reasons, it’s not always easy to manage naturally occurring habitat. Our fish habitat is intended to provide an effective and affordable alternative to natural cover types for a variety of purposes and objectives. All of Pond King’s artificial fish habitat is safe for the environment, reduces the likelihood of snagged lures, is easy to assemble and deploy, doesn’t decay, and you can find it using your fish finder, so locating your honey hole season after season is a snap.
The Honey Hole Grass, Reed and Dock Dropper ship fully assembled. The other Honey Hole products require some minimal assembly, which can easily be done in your shop or at your pond, but never with any toxic glues!
Absolutely not! The Honey Hole, and the Honey Hole Reed, Brush, Shrub, Tree and Grass can just be tossed into the water from your boat or the shore. You just drop the Dock Dropper from your dock (as the name implies), secure it to your deck and you are good to go. The Honey Hole Canopy requires just a little more effort; you just have to attach it to a weight (not included), and then drop it in the water, but none of it is hard to install.
Pond King’s Honey Hole artificial fish habitat is made of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and is designed to be assembled without any toxic glues or adhesives, so yes it is safe for the environment. In fact, given that it doesn’t degrade overtime and minimizes the number of lures snagged that land on the bottom of the lake or pond, some might even say our artificial fish habitat is good for the environment!
Our artificial fish habitat has a higher-than average limb count which results in a lot more surface area for the accumulation of periphyton. Plus, the materials we use to make our habitat are biologically inert, so they aren’t just safe for your pond today, they are safe for the life of the product.
Honey Hole Products Other Artificial Fish Habitat
  • HDPE with added UV inhibitor is highly resistant to degradation from exposure to sunlight, temperature extremes, and acidic or alkaline conditions.
  • Environmental degradation causes PVC to become brittle, and long term structural integrity of PVC habitat in shallow aquatic environments is problematic.
  • HDPE and LDPE used are biologically inert materials and are the same type of plastic approved by the FDA for use in the food storage industry.
  • PVC is a mixture of vinyl chloride and phthalate based plasticizers, and other additives; many of which are suspected carcinogens and endocrine disruptors.
  • Only clean, environmentally nontoxic, durable material is used to construct Honey Hole Artificial Habitat. LDPE is sourced from virgin material free from contaminants.
  • The manufacture, use and disposal of PVC is not "green." The release of dioxin - a persistent and highly toxic chemical - occurs during synthesis and incineration.
  • HDPE is sourced from recycling factory re-grind material verified for environmental safety and quality, to reduce unnecessary waste and promote sustainability.
  • PVC can contain biocides that are designed to deter microbial growth which may negatively affect bacterial diversity in biofilm that accumulates on submerged artificial habitat constructed from re-purposed PVC products.
